Replacing a swing plate on one of these models is very similar to the steps for an HP LJ 42xx/43xx printer.

You will need to remove the following parts:

1.       Toner cartridge

2.       Paper tray

3.       All covers

4.       Fuser assembly

5.       Inner tray guide on the printer’s right if you are looking from the front of the unit.

6.       You have to remove the power supply.

You can remove the swing plate from a LJ 42xx/43xx printer now. The removal of the swing plate assembly on a P40xx and the M600 class have a few extra steps.

1.       If you look into the area where the Fuser sat you will see a bar going across the length of the printer. You will not be able to remove the swing plate without removing this bar next. The bar has 4 screws, two you can get to in the rear of the printer and two that you can get to from the front of the machine.

2.       Next you will have to remove the Black or white gear directly in front of the swing plate assembly.

3.       After removing the metal bar and the gear you will be able to get to the four screws that hold the swing plate in place.

4.       Installing the swing plate is a lot easier than the 42xx/43xx printers. The P40xx and M600 machines do not have the notch on the swing plate that you have to put in the slot in the frame of the printer.

5.       After reinstalling the swing plate, gear, and the metal bar the installation would be the same as a 42xx/43xx printer.
